Many settler women’s diaries and letters include writings about the vastness of the prairies. Some saw it as overwhelming and lonely, and others wrote about its beauty that was unlike anything they had seen before.

Inspired by a letter from Lilian (Hyde) Turner to her mother, ca 1906. Lilian came from Bealton, Ontario to the Herschel area oF Saskatchewan in 1906 (Glenbow Archives, University of Calgary, #MB244)
